Exhibition
The exhibition ‘Verdichtung oder Verdrängung? Wenn Neubauten ersetzen’ was held from 26 January - 23 April 2023 at the Zentrum Architektur Zürich, Bellerive ZAZ and discussed social and structural aspects of urban densification through replacement new buildings. Over the past twenty years, the city of Zurich has established an increasingly critically discussed practice of inward urban densification by means of replacement new buildings, with the aim of creating living space to meet existing demand and absorb the forecast population growth. The structural and social consequences of this have only been scientifically analysed and publicly discussed to a limited extent.
The exhibition ‘Verdichtung oder Verdrängung? Wenn Neubauten ersetzen’ was developed in collaboration with students from two programs at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich: MAS GTA from the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture GTA and MAS in Housing from the ETH Wohnforum – ETH CASE. It includes contributions from Countdown 2030, Mieten-Marta, Newrope - ETH Professorship for Architecture and Urban Transformation.
