Seminar Week in Bogotá: Can Housing Cooperatives play a role in the Revitalization of Historic City Centers?

MAS ETH in Housing, in collaboration with our partners at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, recently concluded a transformative Seminar Week in Bogotá, Colombia. Over the course of two immersive weeks, we explored the potential of housing cooperatives in addressing the pressing challenges faced by communities in Bogota´s city center.

During a two-week joint workshop bringing together students of the MAS ETH in Housing and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL), we explored innovative strategies to enable access to land, finance, and technical assistance for local communities seeking affordable collective housing solutions as a means to reclaim their right to remain in the city center.

After an intensive period of 10 days filled with lectures, neighborhood visits, and conversations with policy makers, local communities, activists and housing experts, students proudly showcased five cooperative housing pilot projects in the heart of Bogotá's city center. These projects exemplify our commitment to fostering sustainable, community-driven solutions to urban housing issues.

We extend our gratitude to guest lecturers and experts Arquitectura Expandida, Federico Ruiz Carvajal, Lucas Oberlaender, and Lucia Anzalone, which significantly enriched our dialogue and offered valuable perspectives on the future of housing in Bogotá.

A publication with the detailed pilot projects and proposed of the Seminar Week is coming out soon!
