Edition Wohnen: New Approaches to Housing for the Second Half of Life

Andreas Huber (Hg.), Neues Wohnen in der zweiten Lebenshälfte (Edition WOHNEN, 2) Basel: Birkhäuser, 2008.

We will not only live longer than our grandparents, but we will also work longer than they did and remain more active and be more adventurous than they were. Thus, for many people today, the second half of life is marked by a broad and varied range of activities that calls for self-determined action. What types of housing will enable us to shape this ever longer and more important phase of our lives in accordance with our needs and wishes? In addition to the desire of most older people to remain in their homes, we are also seeing the emergence of new and novel communal types of housing, such as neighbourhood and cohousing communities, shared apartments, integrated residential communities, assisted living, and group homes.
