Wohnen in prekären Lebenslagen: Angebote der Wohnhilfe für Benachteiligte in der Schweiz

In tight housing markets, it is particularly difficult for socially disadvantaged households to find and keep adequate housing. In Switzerland, affordable housing is scarce and declining, especially in prospering cities (e.g., Zurich, Bern) and growing regions (e.g., Basel conurbation, Geneva). For population groups with low incomes that are disadvantaged in the housing market, such as single parents and large families, people with a migration background or those who are confronted with addictions, the search for suitable housing often becomes an insurmountable hurdle.

Researchers of the ETH Housing Forum - ETH CASE have investigated this problem and identified policies and strategies to secure and improve access to housing for disadvantaged households. In addition to state instruments of social policy, the offers of housing assistance, which accompany and support those affected not only financially, but above all on a social level, are central. The article focuses on the wide range of housing assistance services for the disadvantaged.
